What to know first
- The verified closing time is 09:00 Beijing time on November 30, 2026.
- Partner-university preselection can be an earlier dependency.
- Prior formal Chinese or China studies are not required by the checked FAQ.
Determine which process applies to you
The admissions page distinguishes mainland Chinese, Hong Kong/Macao/Taiwan and international applicant instructions. It also says students and alumni of partner universities must complete their home institution’s preselection before submitting. Check your category and institutional relationship before building the application calendar.
If a partner process applies, record its contact, internal deadline and required materials separately from the Academy submission. Do not assume that finishing an online draft completes the home institution’s requirement. If your relationship to a partner university is unclear, resolve that question early with the relevant offices. The useful output is a confirmed sequence of steps, with an owner and date for each dependency.

Turn an interest in China into a study question
The Academy’s FAQ says prior formal study of Chinese or China is not required, while expecting a clear interest and plan. An applicant can therefore start from a serious question developed in another field, but should explain the connection carefully rather than relying on a broad statement of enthusiasm.
Write a short account of the issue you want to understand, why China matters to that issue and which evidence first drew your attention to it. Then identify what you still need to learn. This exercise can expose whether your proposal is too broad, whether important assumptions need testing, or whether a different academic route would fit better. It is preparation advice, not an additional eligibility condition.

Connect your previous work to the proposed study
Select examples that show relevant habits of inquiry: a research project, sustained reading, field experience or another piece of work you can discuss precisely. Explain the question, your method or approach, and the limits of your conclusion. Avoid treating a topic’s importance as proof that your own contribution is substantial.
Build a simple connection between each example and the next stage of study. What can you already do? What questions did the experience leave unresolved? What kind of further training or academic environment would help? The Academy describes the master’s as English-taught. Its curriculum also includes Chinese-language study for international students and options to select other Peking University courses in Chinese or English. Check the current curriculum and any applicable language-study waiver before planning your course choices.

Submit to the right clock and preserve your record
Treat 09:00 Beijing time as a morning cutoff, and convert it carefully to your own location. Build an earlier personal completion date to allow for missing documents or recommendation dependencies. Check the live portal for the current required materials rather than recycling a previous applicant’s checklist as authoritative.
Review the final application as one account of your academic history and proposed direction. Names, dates and descriptions should agree across documents. Keep a copy of the submitted materials and confirmation. If you are also applying to another Peking University degree, maintain separate instructions and calendars: the central graduate reference page does not replace Yenching Academy’s own current application route.

Questions applicants ask
Do I need a previous degree in China Studies?
The checked FAQ does not require prior formal Chinese or China study. It expects a clear interest and plan; read the full current eligibility requirements as well.
Is November 30 the only deadline I need?
Not necessarily. Partner-university preselection may create an earlier internal deadline that you must confirm with your institution.
Where should I apply?
Use the application route linked by Yenching Academy and follow the instructions for your applicant category.
Is Yenching Academy taught in English?
Yes. The Academy’s official programme description identifies an English-taught master’s. Chinese-language study and Chinese-taught elective options are separate parts of the curriculum.
