Peking University undergraduate admissions: choose your route

Peking University has distinct international undergraduate routes with and without the initial written examination. This guide uses the official 2026 notices checked on 7 October 2026. It explains how to research the correct route; it does not present those historical dates or requirements as confirmed 2027 instructions.

What to know first

  • Verified source cycle: 2026.
  • Written-exam exemption still involves further assessment.
  • The checked notices do not permit simultaneous applications through multiple international undergraduate routes.

Who can help review your PKU undergraduate eligibility?

Agora Scholars can help compare your background with published university, programme and intake requirements as part of an agreed admissions engagement. A useful review identifies what your records support, what is missing and which questions need an answer from PKU. It is preparation for the university’s review, not a personal eligibility ruling from this guide.

Before agreeing adviser support, ask for a clear scope: which requirements and documents will be compared, how missing evidence will be identified, and which unresolved questions you will take to PKU. A simple working table—requirement, supporting record, unresolved question—can keep that conversation specific.

The notices checked here are for 2026. Their age, residence and submission dates must not be treated as 2027 rules. PKU assesses application qualifications; the relevant Chinese authorities determine nationality where required. An adviser cannot replace those decisions.

Discuss your application with Agora through the enquiry link below, starting with your intended intake, school qualification and the question you need help resolving. Confirm the agreed review scope before sharing detailed records.

Start with two separate checks of PKU’s published requirements:

  • Applicant status. A foreign passport alone does not answer every eligibility question. PKU’s 2026 notices describe additional nationality and residence evidence for specified applicants with Chinese-parent or former Chinese-resident backgrounds. Which provisions apply depends on the applicant’s circumstances. Read the relevant clauses before choosing an examination route.
  • Academic route. Identify your school qualification, graduation date, available results and Chinese-language evidence. For the route without a written examination, compare those records with the official qualification and score requirements; exemption still involves assessment. Applicants considering the Health Science Center need its separate admissions brochure.

Choose the route your evidence supports

Begin with your qualification and available results. The written-examination route and the route based on qualifying standardized examination results ask you to demonstrate readiness in different ways. Determine which official eligibility table applies before deciding how to prepare.

Do not choose an exemption route simply because the label sounds easier. Check the relevant qualification, the required results and the stage of assessment that follows. Exact score thresholds need the official current table; this guide deliberately does not supply a score from an unverified or different-cycle chart.

What the 2026 written-examination route tells us

The checked notice lists written examinations in Chinese, English and Mathematics, followed by a secondary examination. Its application window was 1 January 2026 at 12:00 through 28 February 2026 at 23:59 Beijing time. That window has passed.

Use the historical notice to identify questions for your preparation: which subjects require work, how your school results document readiness, and how you will obtain the current instructions. Do not use it to book a future examination date or assume that the next cycle follows the same timetable.

What written-exam exemption actually means

The checked 2026 exemption route allows qualifying standardized results to support entry to a later assessment stage. It does not make admission automatic. The notice describes Chinese-medium study and restricts applicants to one application round.

Keep two checks separate: whether your qualification is eligible for consideration, and whether your academic preparation fits the intended programme. Meeting a published threshold answers the first question only. For the second, review the actual course of study and your ability to work in its teaching language.

Prepare useful work while awaiting a current notice

You can organize qualification records, map your subject preparation and improve academic language without inventing future requirements. Save official copies of results and note when pending results are expected. Make a list of anything requiring translation or school assistance, then confirm the exact format when the current notice is available.

Avoid paying for a test solely because another applicant or an old guide mentioned it. First establish whether the current route requires or accepts that test and whether its timing fits the application. The useful output now is an evidence inventory and a set of questions, not a guessed 2027 submission calendar.

Before committing to an application

Recheck the university's current international undergraduate notice. Confirm the intake, route, qualification table, language requirement, allowed application choices and assessment arrangements together. If the route is unclear, provide the admissions office with your precise qualification and applicant circumstances when asking for clarification.

Only after resolving those points should you set final submission targets. Keep the old notice as historical context if useful, but remove its dates from any active checklist for a different year.
